Uttarakhand, often called Dev Bhoomi, truly lives up to its name. After spending a week in Uttarkashi, I realized why this region holds such spiritual and natural importance. While most travelers visit Uttarkashi during the Gangotri Yatra, there is much more to explore beyond the pilgrimage route.
Before visiting, I checked several online reviews, and all of them spoke highly of this waterfall. After experiencing it myself—both during sunny days and the monsoon—I can confidently say that Khedi Waterfall is one of the major attractions of Uttarkashi.
Where Is Khedi Waterfall Located?
Khedi Waterfall is located on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, on the way from Uttarkashi to Maneri Dam. It is the only waterfall listed on the Barahat Range.
Unlike many natural waterfalls, Khedi Waterfall is not a natural formation. It is an outlet of overflow discharge from the Maneri Hydroelectric Project on the Bhagirathi River. When the water flows down slowly, it creates a beautiful cascade with multiple levels, making the sight even more captivating.
Distance and Surroundings
The village of Maneri is around 9 km from Uttarkashi and is surrounded by majestic mountains, making the journey extremely scenic. The waterfall itself lies along this route, with the Bhagirathi River flowing parallel to the road.
During my stay, I chose to stay in Gangori Village, which is close to Maneri and convenient for visiting the waterfall.
How to Reach Khedi Waterfall
Khedi Waterfall is easily accessible by road. It lies on the route from Uttarkashi to Maneri Dam, and the drive is smooth and picturesque via National Highway 34.
The road runs alongside the Bhagirathi River, with towering mountains in the background, making the journey as rewarding as the destination itself.
Best Time to Visit Khedi Waterfall
I visited Khedi Waterfall twice—once during sunny weather and once during the monsoon. Both experiences were beautiful in their own way, but the monsoon visit stood out.

- The entire valley gets covered in clouds
- The route to Maneri becomes even more breathtaking
- At the waterfall, you can sometimes witness cloud formation if you’re lucky
The force of water during the rainy season is tremendous, making the waterfall extremely powerful and dramatic.
What Makes Khedi Waterfall Unique
Having seen many waterfalls on past trips, Waterfall felt different because of its sheer water force. You can hike down closer to the waterfall, but doing so without a raincoat is almost impossible due to the strong spray.
Visitors should be extremely careful while attempting to go closer, as the force of water leaves no room for mistakes.
Near the waterfall, there is a small shop where you can enjoy tea and snacks, making it a nice resting point. From here, there are two viewpoint levels that offer stunning photographic angles of the waterfall. You can go one level further down, but standing there for long requires proper rain protection.
