Drone Intrusion Attempts Near J&K: What Intelligence Agencies Are Saying

Multiple Drone Movements Detected Along IB and LoC

JAMMU: Security forces detected movement of suspected drones in multiple forward areas along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) across Samba, Rajouri, and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday evening, officials confirmed.

According to officials, all the flying objects were observed entering Indian territory from the Pakistan side and later returned after hovering for a few minutes. Following the sightings, security forces immediately launched ground search operations in the affected forward areas.

Drone Sightings Across Multiple Border Sectors

Officials detailed multiple sightings within a short time span, indicating coordinated or repeated intrusion attempts.

  • Rajouri District:
Army troops guarding the Nowshera sector fired medium and light machine guns after spotting a drone movement over Gania Kalsian village at around 6.35 pm.
At the same time, another drone was seen over Khabbar village in Teryath, with officials noting a blinking light on the flying object. The drone reportedly entered from the direction of Dharmsal village in Kalakote and moved further towards Bharakh.
  • Poonch District:
A drone-like object was observed moving from Tain towards Topa in the Mankote sector along the LoC at approximately 6.25 pm, officials said.
  • Samba District:
Around 7.15 pm, a drone-like object with blinking lights was seen hovering for several minutes over Chak Babral village in the Ramgarh sector.

Earlier Drone-Dropped Arms Recovery Raises Alarm

The latest incidents follow a significant recovery made on Friday night, when security forces intercepted an arms consignment allegedly dropped by a drone originating from Pakistan in Paloora village of Ghagwal, near the IB in Samba district.

The seized material included:

  • Two pistols
  • Three magazines
  • 16 rounds of ammunition
  • One grenade

Officials said the recovery reinforced concerns over the use of drones for cross-border arms delivery.

Satellite Communication Detected Near Kanachak Sector

In a related development, intelligence agencies detected satellite communication by suspected terrorists near the IB in Rajpura area of Jammu’s Kanachak sector on Sunday.

Officials said the communication, traced to a Thuraya satellite device, was detected around 3 pm. The GPS location was subsequently tracked, prompting immediate action on the ground.

“Soon after, a joint team of the Army, J&K Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), BSF, and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched a massive search operation,” an official said.

While nothing suspicious had been found so far, officials confirmed that further combing operations were ongoing.

Security Measures and Community Vigilance Intensified

Amid the heightened alert, the SSP Poonch convened a meeting with Village Defence Group (VDG) members from the border village of Jhullas. The volunteers were directed to remain vigilant and committed to safeguarding their villages while strictly adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Officials emphasized that coordination between security forces and local defence groups remains a crucial component of border security management.

Situation Under Close Watch

Security agencies continue to closely monitor the situation along the IB and LoC, with search operations and surveillance remaining active in the affected sectors. Officials said further action would be taken based on ground findings and intelligence inputs.
